History
The Michigan Trappers Association Inc. (MTA) was created in 1989. The Association is the result of a merger between the Southern Michigan Trappers Association (SMTA) and the Zone 2 Trappers Association.
The SMTA was started in 1974 by a group of sportsmen interested in protecting their rights to harvest surplus furbearing animals.
The Zone 2 Trappers Association was formed in 1957 (the original Michigan Trappers Association) by a group that realized the need for conservation, furbearing animal education, and the ability to aid the Department of Natural Resources in wildlife management issues.
Through the efforts of our founders, and numerous others, we have created a united front dedicated to protecting sportsmens rights. It is because of their efforts we are still able to traverse the woods and water in pursuit of the renewable resource of furbearing animals.
